The Niagara Collection
Establihed in 2003

John Burtniak's Contribution
This collection began in 2003 with a donation to the Niagara Falls Art Gallery of a large assemblage of artwork that is relevant to the Niagara area from historian John Burtniak. This accumulation of art from various time periods provided the foundation upon which this collection could be established.

About The Collection
The Niagara Collection presents a vivid picture of our heritage consisting of a large variety of work in various mediums. Currently sitting at over 400 pieces, this anthology continues to grow from multiple sources to include work that span over 3 centuries from the early 1700's to present.

What's currently included?
  • Paintings of oil, acrylic and watercolour
  • Drawings of pencil, pen, ink, and pastel
  • Prints: engravings, lithographs, aquatints, serigraphs and etchings
  • This collection will continue to expand in breadth, art forms and relevance moving forward.
Why is this collection important?
This significant cultural resource represents an art-historical, systematic overview of one of the leading cultural icons and landmarks in North America. Subsequently, it is an important provision to both the city of Niagara Falls as well as the Niagara community on whole.
